What is a microneedling pen used for?

A pen-shaped handpiece moves a sterile needle cartridge over the skin. The needles enter at a clinician-selected depth, producing tiny channels that trigger a wound-healing response and gradual collagen remodelling. It may be used on the face, neck, or other suitable areas, but depth and technique must match the skin region and concern. Microneedling is different from applying a serum with a roller or pen: the procedure deliberately breaches the skin barrier and requires proper infection control.

Tell the practitioner about active acne, cold sores, eczema, psoriasis, keloid scarring, recent tanning, and medicines that affect healing or bleeding. Do not pick at the skin before treatment. Afterward, keep the area clean, avoid touching it unnecessarily, and use only the aftercare products recommended. Delay strong acids, retinoids, intense heat, and swimming until the barrier has recovered according to the clinician's advice.

Contact the clinic if pain, swelling, redness, or warmth is worsening rather than settling, or if pus, blistering, or spreading rash appears. Seek prompt assessment for fever or facial swelling. Treatment should be postponed over active infection or an inflamed flare; persistent darkening or unusual scarring also warrants review.
