What Is an LED Phototherapy Panel Used For?

The panel places light-emitting diodes in front of the treatment area. Blue light may be selected in plans for acne, while red or near-infrared light may be used for other skin goals. A panel can illuminate a wider area than a small handheld device, but its usefulness depends on wavelength, dose, distance, eye protection, and the condition being treated.

Some panels are used on the scalp as part of a hair-care plan, but an LED panel is not automatically the same as a dedicated hair device. It also cannot diagnose a rash, mole, infection, or unexplained hair loss.

Ask what concern the panel is intended to address and whether the device has clear instructions for wavelength, distance, session timing, and eye protection. Mention medicines that increase light sensitivity, seizure disorders triggered by light, eye disease, pregnancy, or active skin infection. Clean the skin as directed and avoid increasing exposure because a session feels comfortable.

Stop using the panel and seek advice for eye pain, vision changes, blistering, significant swelling, or a persistent rash. Have a new or changing mole, unexplained bleeding, spreading infection, or sudden hair loss assessed rather than treating it with light at home. Urgent care is appropriate for breathing difficulty or rapidly increasing facial swelling.

Ask which wavelength and treatment area are appropriate, whether the panel is suitable for your skin and medicines, and how progress will be judged. If hair is the concern, ask whether a dedicated hair device or another diagnosis is more suitable. Clarify eye protection and the signs that require a stop.
