What Is LED Light Therapy Done With?

Short answer
LED light therapy is done with an LED phototherapy panel that shines selected non-ultraviolet light onto the skin.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How the equipment works
An LED panel contains light-emitting diodes arranged to illuminate a treatment area without needles or laser ablation. Different colours or wavelengths are chosen for the intended purpose: blue light may be used in acne care, while red or near-infrared light may be selected for other skin goals. The device stays outside the skin and should not feel like a burning heat treatment.
LED therapy is different from ultraviolet tanning or phototherapy used for certain medical diseases. The correct device, eye protection, distance, and exposure instructions depend on the panel and treatment plan.
Using LED therapy safely
Remove products as instructed and tell the provider about medicines that increase light sensitivity, eye conditions, or a history of light-triggered symptoms. Use the recommended eye protection and keep the panel at the stated distance. Do not stare into bright LEDs, combine sessions with irritating products without advice, or assume a home device has the same output as a clinic device.
When to stop and seek advice
Stop a session and contact the provider if you develop eye pain, vision changes, blistering, marked swelling, or a rash that continues after treatment. Seek urgent care for facial swelling with breathing difficulty. If acne, redness, or another concern worsens, arrange a review rather than increasing exposure on your own.
Questions for your provider
Ask which wavelength is planned, whether eye shields are needed, how the panel is positioned, and how the treatment fits with your medicines and skincare. Ask what improvement can reasonably be assessed, when it should be reviewed, and which reaction is outside the expected range.

Questions people ask
Is LED light therapy a laser treatment?
No. LEDs emit broad, selected light from a panel or mask, while a laser produces a more concentrated beam.
Does LED therapy use ultraviolet light?
The devices used for common cosmetic LED therapy are designed to use selected non-ultraviolet wavelengths; confirm the specifications of the device being offered.
