What is labral repair done with?

The labrum is a rim of firm tissue around a joint socket, commonly discussed in the shoulder or hip. During an arthroscopic repair, the surgeon views the joint through a small camera and prepares the edge of the socket. A suture anchor is placed in the nearby bone, and attached sutures are passed through the labral tissue to secure it in position. The number and placement of anchors depend on the tear and the joint involved.

Ask whether you will need a sling, brace, crutches, or limits on lifting and rotation. Follow the wound, medication, and exercise instructions closely. Early rehabilitation usually protects the repair while gradually restoring motion, followed by strengthening when the clinician considers it appropriate. Do not test the joint with heavy or forceful activity before clearance.

Contact the surgical team for increasing redness, drainage, fever, worsening pain, or swelling around the wound. Seek urgent assessment for new severe weakness, loss of feeling, a cold or discoloured limb, chest pain, or breathing difficulty. A sudden injury or a new catching sensation after surgery should also be reported promptly.
