What is knee arthroscopy done with?

The arthroscope sends a magnified view of the inside of the knee to a screen. The surgeon may use separate slim instruments to inspect, trim, remove, repair, or smooth selected tissue, depending on the problem. Sterile fluid is passed through the joint to improve the view. The exact instruments and procedure vary according to findings such as a meniscus or cartilage problem.

Your surgical team will explain fasting, medicines, walking support, wound care, and exercises before the procedure. Arrange help for the first part of recovery if bending or weight-bearing is restricted. Keep dressings clean and follow the prescribed movement plan. Rehabilitation helps restore knee motion and strength; its pace depends on what was found and treated.

Contact the surgical team for increasing redness, drainage, fever, worsening swelling, or pain that is not controlled by the agreed plan. Seek urgent care for chest pain, difficulty breathing, a very swollen calf, or a foot that becomes cold, pale, or numb. Sudden inability to move the knee also deserves prompt assessment.
