What is kinesiology taping done with?

The tape is cut to suit the body area and applied to clean, dry skin. A clinician may place it along a muscle, across a joint, or around a region that needs movement guidance. The material stretches with ordinary movement, while its contact with the skin can provide a reminder about position and motion. It is different from rigid athletic tape because it is designed to allow more movement.

Tell the practitioner about sensitive skin, allergies to adhesives, wounds, or a current skin condition. Avoid applying tape over broken or irritated skin. Once it is on, keep it dry as instructed and do not pull it off quickly. Check the skin after removal. Taping works best as one part of a plan that may include exercises, activity changes, or other treatment.

Remove the tape and contact a clinician if you notice a spreading rash, blistering, burning, marked swelling, new numbness, or pain that is getting worse. Get urgent assessment after an injury causing deformity, inability to use the limb, or a cold or unusually pale hand or foot. These signs need evaluation rather than more tape.
