What is hysteroscopic polypectomy done with?

A hysteroscope carries a light and camera into the uterine cavity through the vagina and cervix. Fluid can gently open the cavity so the clinician can see the polyp and its attachment clearly.

A small cutting loop, scissors, grasping device, or similar instrument may be passed through the hysteroscope. The clinician separates the polyp from the uterine lining and sends removed tissue for examination when appropriate. The exact instrument depends on the polyp and the equipment available.

Ask whether your procedure is planned with local anaesthesia, sedation, or general anaesthesia, and follow instructions about food, drink, and medicines. Tell the team about pregnancy possibility, bleeding disorders, allergies, and medicines that affect clotting.

Arrange transport if sedation or anaesthesia is used. Afterward, use the recommended sanitary protection and follow advice about activity, intercourse, and when to expect results.

Contact the care team for bleeding that becomes heavy, increasing pelvic pain, fever, chills, faintness, vomiting, or discharge with an unpleasant smell. Severe pain, collapse, or breathing difficulty requires urgent medical attention.

Ask how the polyp was identified, what instrument and anaesthesia are planned, whether tissue will be examined, how recurrence will be monitored, and which symptoms are expected during recovery.
