What is hip arthroscopy done with?

An arthroscope is a slender tube with a light and camera. It sends a magnified view to a monitor, allowing the surgeon to inspect the hip joint without making one large opening. Fluid is circulated through the joint to clear the view. Additional instruments can remove damaged tissue, smooth an irregular area, repair a torn labrum, or address a bony prominence when appropriate.

Because the hip is deep and tightly enclosed, the leg is positioned carefully and gentle traction may be used to create working space. The operation is performed with anaesthesia, and the exact portals and instruments depend on the finding being treated.

Before surgery, confirm which problem the procedure is intended to address and whether repair or removal is planned. Arrange help with transport and early daily tasks, and ask when you may place weight through the leg. Follow the specific plan for crutches, wound care, exercises, and pain medicines. Early physiotherapy is often tailored to protect a repair while gradually restoring hip movement and strength.

Call the surgical team for increasing wound drainage, spreading redness, fever, worsening pain, or new numbness or weakness. Seek urgent care for chest pain, sudden breathlessness, fainting, or a cold or unusually pale foot. After traction, temporary tingling can occur, but persistent or worsening nerve symptoms need prompt assessment.
