What is fractional CO2 vaginal laser used for?

A handpiece delivers laser energy through the vaginal canal. The fractional pattern leaves areas of untreated tissue between treated spots, and the clinician selects settings according to the examination and treatment goal.

It may be discussed for vaginal dryness, irritation or discomfort in selected situations, but symptoms can also arise from infection, hormonal changes, pelvic-floor problems or skin conditions. The laser does not replace an assessment of new bleeding, discharge or pain.

Ask about the diagnosis, expected sensations, alternatives and aftercare before agreeing to treatment. Tell the clinician about pregnancy, breastfeeding, active infection, unexplained bleeding, previous pelvic procedures and medicines that affect healing.

Follow the advised period of pelvic rest and hygiene after treatment. Do not insert products or resume intercourse until the treating clinician says the tissue has had time to heal.

Contact the treating team for worsening pain, increasing bleeding, fever, offensive discharge, difficulty passing urine or sores that do not settle. Urgent assessment is needed for heavy bleeding, severe pelvic pain, fainting or trouble breathing.
