What Is an Electrolysis Epilator Used For?

During treatment, a trained practitioner guides a very fine probe into the natural opening of a selected hair follicle. The device sends an electrical current that generates heat or a chemical reaction, depending on the electrolysis method. The treated hair is then removed with sterile forceps. Because follicles are treated one at a time, electrolysis can be useful for small areas and for hair that is not a good target for light-based devices. Several appointments are often needed as different follicles grow into an accessible phase.

Choose a properly trained practitioner who follows infection-control procedures, and disclose active skin disease, medicines that affect healing, implanted electrical devices or a history of raised scars. Arrive with clean skin and avoid plucking the hairs immediately beforehand if the practitioner needs visible growth. Follow instructions about moisturisers, sun exposure and touching the area after treatment. Mild redness around follicles can occur while the skin settles.

Contact the practitioner if swelling, warmth, pain, pus, spreading redness or crusting is increasing after treatment. Seek urgent care for facial swelling with breathing difficulty or a rapidly spreading allergic reaction. Persistent darkening, lightening or scarring should be reviewed before further sessions, especially if the area is exposed to sun.
