What is egg freezing done with?

Medicines are used to stimulate several ovarian follicles, while scans and blood tests help the fertility team monitor development. When the eggs are ready, a clinician retrieves them with a fine needle guided by ultrasound, usually through the vagina, using planned pain relief or sedation. In the laboratory, mature eggs are exposed to protective solutions and cooled rapidly by vitrification. They are then stored in labelled cryogenic containers. Vitrification limits the formation of damaging ice crystals, but not every collected egg will be suitable for freezing or later use.

Ask which medicines you will use, how monitoring appointments are arranged, and what the collection day involves. Tell the clinic about medical conditions, allergies, medicines, and previous ovarian surgery. Arrange transport after sedation and keep the team updated about severe bloating, pain, or reduced urination during stimulation. Discuss storage arrangements and the consent process before eggs are placed in long-term storage.

Mild pelvic discomfort can follow collection. Contact the clinic for worsening pain, heavy bleeding, fever, repeated vomiting, marked abdominal swelling, or shortness of breath. Urgent care is appropriate for severe breathing difficulty, fainting, or sudden severe abdominal pain.
