What Is a Cryotherapy Chamber Used For?

Short answer
A cryotherapy chamber is used for a supervised cold exposure session that may temporarily ease pain or muscle soreness for selected people.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How a chamber works
A chamber surrounds most or all of the body with very cold air for a short session. The cold causes the skin and surface tissues to cool rapidly, which can briefly alter pain signals and the feeling of muscle soreness. It is different from placing an ice pack on one small area.
Whole-body cryotherapy is an optional supportive treatment, not a substitute for diagnosing an injury, treating infection or completing a rehabilitation programme. The evidence and suitability can vary by condition, so the clinic should explain the intended benefit rather than promise a result.
Preparing for a session
Tell the provider about heart or circulation problems, uncontrolled blood pressure, cold sensitivity, nerve problems, skin disease, pregnancy and medicines that affect circulation. Protect the skin as instructed, remove damp clothing and follow the staff member’s directions throughout the session.
Stop and tell the operator immediately if you feel faint, confused, unusually numb, short of breath or distressed. Warm up as directed afterward and do not use a session to push through an injury that needs assessment.
When to seek care
Seek prompt medical advice for blistering, persistent numbness, severe pain, skin colour that does not return normally, dizziness or breathing symptoms after treatment. Emergency care is appropriate for collapse, chest pain or severe difficulty breathing.
Questions for your doctor
Ask what symptom the chamber is intended to address, whether your health conditions make cold exposure unsuitable, how it fits with physiotherapy, and what symptoms mean the session should stop.

Questions people ask
Is a cryotherapy chamber the same as an ice pack?
No. An ice pack cools a local area, while a chamber exposes much of the body to very cold air under supervision.
Can cryotherapy replace physiotherapy?
No. It may be considered supportive care, while physiotherapy addresses movement, strength and function.
