What Is Clobetasol Propionate Used For?

Clobetasol propionate is a very potent topical corticosteroid. It reduces inflammatory activity in the skin, which can ease itching, redness, scaling, and thickening when the underlying condition responds to steroids. Doctors may prescribe it for difficult flares of conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, or other inflammatory dermatoses. The correct formulation depends on the body site and the type of skin change.

Because it is potent, it is generally used in a thin layer for a limited course directed by a clinician. Applying more, using it for longer, or covering the area without instructions can increase the chance of skin thinning, stretch marks, colour changes, or absorption into the body. It will not treat every rash, and an infection can worsen if treated incorrectly.

Apply only to the diagnosed or instructed areas and wash your hands afterward unless the hands are being treated. Keep it away from the eyes, face, groin, and skin folds unless your prescriber specifically directs its use there. Do not share the medicine or place an airtight dressing over it without advice.
