What Is Class IV Therapy Laser Used For?

A clinician directs the laser over a measured treatment area. The light energy is intended to influence local tissue responses and may be used alongside movement exercises, manual therapy, and advice about activity. It can be considered for some muscle, tendon, joint, or soft-tissue pain presentations after an assessment identifies a suitable target.

The treatment does not identify the cause of pain and does not repair every injury on its own. The clinician chooses the dose, timing, and treatment area according to the diagnosis, skin condition, medicines, and other health factors. A warm sensation may occur, but tell the therapist if the area feels uncomfortable.

Tell the physiotherapist if you are pregnant, have a light-sensitive condition, take medicines that increase light sensitivity, or have an unexplained skin change over the area. Protect your eyes as instructed and keep the treatment area free of products that the therapist has asked you to remove. Continue the exercise programme provided, because laser is generally one part of a broader rehabilitation plan.

Stop the session and tell the clinician about intense heat, blistering, a new rash, eye discomfort, or worsening pain. Seek medical assessment for sudden weakness, severe swelling, fever, a rapidly changing skin mark, or pain after an injury that prevents normal use of the limb.

Ask what diagnosis the laser is intended to support, what improvement will be measured, how it will be combined with exercise, and when the plan will be reviewed. Check whether any medicine or skin condition changes its suitability for you.
