What is botox done with?

A clinician places small injections into selected muscles. The material interrupts nerve signals that tell those muscles to contract, which can soften the appearance of expression lines or alter activity in a treated area. The effect is local and temporary, and the injection pattern is chosen according to the muscle movement and treatment goal.

Botulinum toxin injections can also be used for concerns beyond facial lines, such as excessive sweating or jaw-muscle bulk. Those uses require different assessment and placement.

Share your medical history, medicines, previous injections, allergies and any infection near the planned sites. Avoid arranging treatment over irritated skin. Afterward, follow the clinic's instructions, avoid rubbing the sites and allow time for the effect to develop. Temporary redness, tenderness or bruising can occur.

Ask the treating clinic to review persistent or worsening pain, swelling, redness, weakness or an unexpected change in movement. Seek urgent help for difficulty breathing or swallowing, widespread weakness, severe allergic symptoms or sudden vision changes.
