What Is Aluminium Chloride Used For?

Aluminium chloride temporarily forms a barrier within the sweat duct near the skin surface. This reduces the amount of sweat reaching the treated area. It is commonly used for underarms, hands, feet, or another area affected by troublesome sweating, depending on the product and clinical advice.

The ingredient can irritate skin, especially when applied to damp, freshly shaved, broken, or inflamed skin. Stinging, redness, dryness, or itching may occur. These effects do not mean the treatment is working better, so application technique matters.

Apply the product exactly as directed, usually to completely dry skin. Wash it off at the time advised and use it on the schedule recommended by your clinician or product instructions. Do not apply it to cuts, eczema flares, or skin that has recently been shaved unless a clinician specifically advises this.

If irritation develops, pause and contact the prescriber for guidance rather than repeatedly applying more product. A clinician can suggest a gentler schedule, a different formulation, or another treatment for persistent sweating. Keep the product away from the eyes and rinse thoroughly if accidental contact occurs.

Seek medical advice for severe burning, blistering, marked swelling, spreading rash, or symptoms that continue after stopping the product. Arrange an assessment if sweating starts suddenly, occurs mainly during sleep, affects the whole body, or comes with fever, weight change, chest symptoms, faintness, or palpitations.
