What if laser hair removal does not relieve excessive body hair?

Laser energy targets pigment in actively growing hairs, so treated hairs do not all respond at the same moment. Hair colour, thickness, skin tone, body region, device choice, and settings can affect the visible result. New growth may also be influenced by hormones, particularly when excess hair appears with irregular periods, acne, scalp thinning, or other changes.

Return to the treating clinician with dates of sessions, photographs if available, and a list of medicines or hormonal symptoms. Avoid waxing or plucking between planned sessions if the clinic has advised shaving instead. Ask whether the device and settings suit the area, whether the schedule should change, and whether a medical assessment for hormonal causes is appropriate. Do not assume that adding sessions is the only solution.

Arrange medical review promptly if hair growth becomes sudden or rapidly progresses, or if it comes with a deeper voice, marked acne, scalp hair loss, or new menstrual changes. Seek care for blistering, severe pain, spreading redness, or pigment changes after treatment.

Ask which hair and skin features affect response, whether the treatment plan fits the body area, what preparation is safest, and whether symptoms suggest a hormonal evaluation.
