What if blood pressure medication does not relieve headache?

Keep taking prescribed blood pressure medicine as directed unless the prescriber tells you otherwise. Check your blood pressure using the method you were shown and write down the reading alongside the headache symptoms. Drink fluids if you may be dehydrated, rest in a quiet setting, and avoid taking extra doses to chase the pain. Contact the prescriber if the headache is new, recurring, or interfering with normal activity; they can review the treatment and decide whether another assessment is needed.

Seek urgent medical help for a sudden, severe headache, a headache after a head injury, or pain with weakness, numbness, confusion, fainting, trouble speaking, vision loss, fever with a stiff neck, chest pain, or severe breathlessness. These features need prompt assessment and should not be attributed to blood pressure or treated at home.
