What if allergy medication does not relieve sneezing?

Sneezing can be triggered by pollen, dust, animal dander, viral infection, dry air, smoke, strong scents, or sudden temperature changes. Allergy medication may not help when the trigger is not allergic, when exposure continues, or when another nasal problem is present. Persistent sneezing does not by itself identify a particular illness.

Leave smoky or dusty areas and keep windows closed when outdoor allergens seem to trigger symptoms. Wash your face and hands after outdoor exposure, and avoid rubbing your nose. Check the label for correct use and timing; ask a pharmacist before changing the dose, combining antihistamines, or using a decongestant. Write down episodes, surroundings, nasal symptoms, fever, and medicines so a clinician can identify a pattern.

Get emergency help for breathing difficulty, wheezing, throat or tongue swelling, faintness, or a rapidly worsening reaction. Seek medical advice for fever, marked facial pain, repeated nosebleeds, symptoms after an injury, or sneezing that continues despite avoiding triggers and interferes with sleep or normal activity.

Could infection, dry air, smoke, or a nasal condition explain my sneezing? Am I using this medicine correctly, and would an examination or a different treatment help?
