What if allergy medication does not relieve itchy eyes?

Allergy is a common reason for itchy, watery eyes, but irritation from smoke, cosmetics, contact lenses, dry eyes, or infection can feel similar. Allergy tablets may not provide enough local relief, while redness, discharge, pain, or light sensitivity can point to a different problem. The pattern in one or both eyes helps guide assessment.

Avoid rubbing your eyes, wash your hands, and use a cool clean compress. Pause contact lenses and eye cosmetics while the eyes are irritated.
