What happens if heat rash is not treated?

Heat rash develops when sweat cannot escape easily from blocked ducts. In a hot, humid setting or under tight clothing, the prickly feeling, redness, and small bumps may continue or spread to covered areas. Scratching can create tiny breaks in the skin, leading to crusting, soreness, or a secondary infection. Repeated episodes may signal that sweating is unusually heavy or that another rash is being mistaken for heat rash.

Move to a cooler environment, wear loose breathable clothing, and keep the affected skin dry. Take cool showers or use a cool damp cloth, then pat rather than rub. A light emollient may soothe dryness, while a clinician can decide whether a short course of topical corticosteroid is appropriate for inflamed skin.
