What happens after semen analysis?

The report commonly covers sperm concentration, movement, and shape, as well as the fluid around the sperm. A finding outside the laboratory range does not by itself establish the cause of difficulty conceiving. Your clinician may recommend a repeat sample, examination, hormone tests, or assessment of both partners. Book a results appointment and bring the report, medication list, and questions about collection conditions. Follow instructions if another sample is requested, because the clinic may specify a period of abstinence and a prompt delivery time. Do not start supplements or stop prescribed medicines solely because of one result. Ask when to investigate other fertility factors and when treatment should be considered. Contact the clinic if the sample was spilled, delayed, collected outside the instructions, or mixed with a substance, because the result may need interpretation or repetition. Seek medical care for blood in semen that persists, severe testicular pain or swelling, fever, or sudden injury.
