What happens after gait analysis?

Short answer
After gait analysis, your clinician explains the movement findings and turns them into practical advice about exercise, footwear, and possible orthotic support.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Review
- Findings are interpreted with symptoms and physical examination.
- Plan
- Advice may include exercises, footwear changes, or orthotic support.
How the findings are used
The assessment may show how your foot, ankle, knee, hip, and trunk move while walking or running. A finding is interpreted alongside your symptoms, strength, flexibility, footwear, and activity demands; a video pattern alone does not establish a diagnosis.
Your clinician may identify a change in loading, timing, balance, or alignment that could be addressed with rehabilitation. If foot support is appropriate, a discussion of Custom Orthotics may follow, but orthotics are not automatically needed after every analysis.
Your next steps
Ask for the main finding in plain language and the reason for each recommendation. Begin prescribed exercises with the demonstrated technique, change training gradually, and use the recommended footwear consistently enough to judge comfort. Note pain, fatigue, swelling, or changes in walking during daily activities and sport. Bring this information to review so the plan can be adjusted rather than based on a single session.
When to seek care
Arrange medical review if walking becomes suddenly difficult, a joint gives way repeatedly, swelling appears after a minor activity, or pain keeps worsening despite reducing the provoking activity. Seek urgent care for inability to bear weight after an injury, a visibly deformed limb, new severe weakness, or a cold or discoloured foot.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which finding matters most, whether you need a formal diagnosis, what exercise should be paused, how footwear should be selected, and when your walking or running should be reassessed.

Questions people ask
Will gait analysis automatically lead to orthotics?
No. Orthotics may be discussed when foot support fits your symptoms and movement goals; many people instead receive exercise or footwear advice.
Can I exercise after gait analysis?
Usually you can follow your clinician’s activity advice, but avoid increasing training while pain or swelling is worsening.
