What happens after AMH test?

AMH gives an indication of the number of follicles that may be available in the ovaries. It does not measure egg quality, confirm whether you can conceive naturally, or predict exactly when menopause will occur. A result that is higher or lower than expected needs context, because laboratory ranges and individual circumstances vary. Your clinician may combine it with an antral follicle count, other hormone tests, and your reproductive history. The discussion should focus on what the result means for your particular plan rather than treating it as a stand-alone answer.

Ask when your result will be available and book a results appointment if one is not already arranged. Bring information about cycle regularity, previous pregnancies, ovarian surgery, and medicines or supplements. Depending on your goals, the conversation may cover trying to conceive, fertility preservation, referral to a fertility specialist, or planning ovarian stimulation. No treatment decision should be made from AMH alone. Continue any prescribed medicine unless your clinician tells you to change it.

An AMH blood test itself does not usually require special recovery. Contact the service if you develop increasing redness, swelling, severe pain, or persistent bleeding at the blood-draw site. Arrange earlier advice if you are worried about fertility, have very irregular or absent periods, or need to make a time-sensitive treatment decision.
