What does vulval pain feel like with vulvodynia?

Vulvodynia can cause pain at the vulva without an obvious infection or visible skin problem. The sensation may be burning, prickling, rawness, sharpness or an electric shock-like feeling. It can be present most of the time or brought on by touch, sitting, tight clothing, tampon use or sexual contact. The entrance may be especially sensitive, while the rest of the vulva feels normal. Symptoms can fluctuate and may be exhausting, but the pattern is not a test that proves the diagnosis.
