What does vaginal discharge feel like with trichomoniasis?

The discharge may be thin or frothy and can look yellowish, greenish, or greyish. A strong or unpleasant smell, vulval itching, soreness, burning when urinating, or discomfort during sex may occur as well. Some people have mild symptoms or none at all. These features overlap with other infections and irritation, so discharge texture and smell cannot confirm trichomoniasis.

Arrange testing with a sexual-health clinician or doctor if the discharge is new, persistent, or accompanied by irritation. Testing may involve a vaginal swab or another sample selected by the clinician. Avoid douching and fragranced products while waiting for care. If testing confirms trichomoniasis, follow the prescribed treatment and ask how sexual partners should be assessed and treated.

Seek prompt care if you develop pelvic pain, fever, unusual bleeding, pain during sex, or worsening symptoms. Get urgent help for severe pain, fainting, or feeling very unwell. Pregnancy or possible pregnancy with infection symptoms should be discussed promptly with a clinician.
