What does vaginal discharge feel like with gonorrhoea?

Gonorrhoea-related discharge may be thicker or more abundant than your usual discharge and can appear white, yellow, or greenish. You may also notice burning when urinating, pelvic discomfort, pain during sex, bleeding after sex, or bleeding between periods. Some infections cause few or no symptoms. A similar discharge can come from other infections or irritation, so colour and texture should not be used as a self-diagnosis.

Arrange a sexual-health assessment promptly if discharge changes, a sexual partner has gonorrhoea, or you have symptoms after condomless sex. Tell the clinician about oral or anal sexual contact so testing can include relevant sites. Avoid sex until you have received advice and completed the recommended treatment. Partners may need evaluation, and follow-up can help confirm that the infection has been addressed.

Seek prompt medical care for pelvic or lower abdominal pain, fever, pain during sex, vomiting, or abnormal bleeding. These may indicate pelvic involvement and need more than symptom monitoring. Severe pain, fainting, or a rapidly worsening illness warrants urgent help.

Ask which body sites should be tested, whether you need treatment before results return, how partners can access care, and when sexual activity can safely resume. Mention any pregnancy or possible pregnancy and any medication allergies.
