What do swollen lymph nodes feel like with follicular lymphoma?

Most people with Follicular Lymphoma notice swollen lymph nodes in areas such as the neck, armpits or groin. A node may feel smooth, firm or rubbery and can be painless. Several nodes may sit together, creating a broader area of fullness. Nodes in the chest or abdomen are deeper and may not be felt; they can instead cause pressure, cough or abdominal fullness. These sensations do not identify the cause by themselves. Infections and other conditions can also enlarge nodes, so a healthcare professional considers your examination, symptoms and any tests needed.

Make a note of where the swelling is, how long it has been present and whether it changes. Tell your clinician about fever, night sweats, tiredness, itching or appetite changes. Arrange an assessment for persistent or growing swelling, and avoid repeatedly prodding the area because this can increase tenderness.

Seek urgent help for trouble breathing or swallowing, sudden severe weakness, or rapidly worsening swelling. Contact your care team promptly if nodes enlarge noticeably, or if you develop persistent fever, drenching night sweats or significant tiredness.
