What do swollen lymph nodes feel like with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma?

Most people with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma notice swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpit or groin, where a lump can be felt beneath the skin. It may feel firm or rubbery and may not hurt. Some enlarged nodes lie in the chest or abdomen, where they cannot be felt directly; they may cause cough, pressure, early fullness or discomfort instead. Tenderness can occur, but feeling a lump cannot confirm its cause. Infection and several non-cancerous conditions also affect lymph nodes, so a clinician uses examination and appropriate tests to clarify what is happening.

Record the location and approximate change in size, and mention fever, night sweats, tiredness, itching or appetite changes at your appointment. Arrange prompt medical review for a lump that persists or grows. Avoid squeezing it, since repeated handling may irritate the tissues.

Get urgent help if swelling affects breathing or swallowing, or if you develop sudden severe illness. Contact your care team promptly for rapidly increasing swelling, persistent fever, drenching night sweats, or new severe pain.
