What does spreading redness feel like with cellulitis?

Spreading Redness is a very common presentation of Cellulitis. The affected skin may feel hotter than nearby skin, sore when touched, tight from swelling, or painful during movement. The border can enlarge over time, and the surface may look shiny. Fever, chills, fatigue, or tender glands can occur as the infection affects the body more broadly.

These sensations can overlap with other skin problems, so the feeling alone cannot identify the cause. A clinician may examine the edge of the redness, check for a wound or bite, and assess your general condition.

Marking the edge of the red area with a pen and noting the time can help show whether it is extending, but this should not delay care. Keep the area clean, avoid squeezing blisters or wounds, and arrange prompt medical assessment. Seek urgent medical care when redness is expanding, especially with fever, chills, worsening pain, rapid swelling, or red streaks.
