What does slurred speech feel like with a transient ischaemic attack?

You may hear speech that becomes garbled, slow, or difficult to understand, even though the person seems aware of the conversation. Another pattern is trouble finding words, understanding language, or forming a clear sentence. A transient ischaemic attack can also cause brief facial drooping, one-sided weakness or numbness, imbalance, or visual disturbance. The symptoms may clear, but that does not make the event harmless or confirm its cause without medical assessment.

Call emergency services as soon as sudden slurring begins, and record when the person was last speaking normally. Keep them supervised and follow the operator's instructions. Do not offer food, drink, or medicines unless directed, and do not let the person drive. If the speech has already returned to normal, explain the episode clearly and seek emergency assessment rather than arranging a routine appointment.

Any sudden speech disturbance needs emergency review, whether it lasts briefly or continues. Call immediately if it comes with weakness, numbness, facial asymmetry, confusion, vision loss, severe headache, or difficulty walking.
