What does skin ulcer feel like with squamous cell carcinoma?

An ulcerated squamous cell carcinoma may develop within a thickened, scaly, wart-like, or tender area. The surface can feel hard or gritty, and a crust may return after it is knocked off. Some lesions are painful; others are noticed because they persist or bleed with light contact.
