What Does Skin Redness Feel Like With Heat Rash?

Heat rash occurs when sweat cannot move freely through the skin. Tiny red spots or bumps may cluster in folds, under clothing, or where skin touches skin. The area can tingle or sting more after sweating, exercise, or being in a hot, humid setting. Babies may become unsettled, while adults may notice irritation beneath tight or non-breathable clothing.

Move to a cooler place, loosen clothing, and gently pat the skin dry. Wear breathable fabrics and take cool showers or use a cool damp cloth. Avoid heavy oils, fragranced products, and scratching, which can block pores or injure the surface. If the rash does not settle after cooling and reducing sweat, ask a pharmacist or clinician about suitable treatment.

Seek urgent help if overheating is accompanied by confusion, faintness, severe weakness, vomiting, or trouble breathing. Arrange medical advice if the rash is painful, oozing, rapidly worsening, associated with fever, or not improving after the skin is kept cool and dry. A clinician can check for infection or another rash that resembles heat rash.
