What does skin rash feel like with contact dermatitis?

Skin Rash is a very common presentation of Contact Dermatitis. Irritant contact dermatitis may feel raw, hot, tight, or painful soon after exposure to something that damages the skin barrier, such as a cleanser, solvent, or repeated wet work. Allergic contact dermatitis often causes marked itch, redness, swelling, bumps, or small blisters after contact with a triggering ingredient. The outline may reflect a strap, adhesive, glove, cosmetic, plant, or other object. Symptoms can continue after the exposure ends because inflammation takes time to settle.

Rinse the area gently if a recent exposure is suspected, then avoid the suspected product or material. Use bland, fragrance-free moisturiser and cool compresses for comfort. Do not scratch blisters or apply leftover prescription creams without guidance, particularly on the face or skin folds. Keep a simple record of new cosmetics, medicines applied to the skin, jewellery, detergents, and workplace exposures so a clinician can look for a pattern.

Get medical advice when the rash is extensive, persistent, recurrent, or interfering with work or sleep. Seek prompt care for increasing pain, warmth, swelling, pus, fever, or rapidly spreading redness. Emergency help is needed for swelling of the lips or tongue, breathing difficulty, faintness, or widespread blistering.
