What does skin lumps feel like with lipoma?

Skin Lumps is a very common presentation of Lipoma. A lipoma is made of fatty tissue beneath the skin and often has a smooth, rounded outline. It may slide a little under gentle pressure and usually feels softer than a firm scar or inflamed lump. Many lipomas are comfortable, but one can ache if it presses on a nearby nerve or sits where clothing, a bag strap, or movement causes repeated pressure. They can occur on the neck, shoulders, back, arms, thighs, or other body areas.

Avoid repeatedly squeezing or measuring the lump by force. Arrange a clinical examination for a new lump so its depth, texture, and movement can be assessed. If it is stable and not troublesome, observation may be reasonable after a clinician confirms what it is. Removal can be discussed when it causes pain, restricts movement, catches on clothing, or creates a cosmetic concern.

Book a medical assessment if the lump is growing, hard, fixed, deep, painful, or changing the nearby skin. Seek prompt advice when it enlarges quickly or causes weakness, numbness, or restricted movement. Touch cannot reliably distinguish every soft-tissue lump, so a changing or uncertain mass should be examined.
