What does skin lumps feel like with skin cyst?

Skin Lumps is a very common presentation of Skin Cyst. An epidermoid cyst is commonly a dome-shaped lump under the skin, sometimes with a tiny central opening. It may feel rubbery or firm and can shift slightly when pressed. A quiet cyst may cause no discomfort. If it becomes inflamed or infected, the skin can turn red, feel warm, swell, and hurt; the lump may become less mobile because nearby tissue is irritated. Thick, unpleasant-smelling material may drain from the opening, but do not try to force it out.

Do not squeeze, puncture, or repeatedly massage the lump. Keep any drainage covered with a clean dressing and wash your hands after contact. A warm compress may soothe a tender area, but it does not remove the cyst wall. A clinician can confirm the diagnosis and discuss observation, treatment of inflammation, or removal when the cyst returns, catches on clothing, or causes repeated discomfort.

Arrange an examination for a new or changing lump, especially when it grows, becomes painful, turns red, or starts draining. Seek prompt care if redness spreads, fever develops, or pain is severe. A cyst near the eye, nose, or another sensitive area should be assessed before home treatment is attempted.

Ask whether the lump appears to be an epidermoid cyst, whether it is inflamed or infected, and which treatment would leave the cyst wall addressed. Mention previous drainage, recurrence, odour, tenderness, and any change in the overlying skin.
