What do skin blisters feel like with contact dermatitis?

Skin Blisters is a common presentation of Contact Dermatitis, often feeling itchy, tender, or burning. Small fluid-filled bumps may appear where the skin touched an irritant or allergen. The surrounding skin can look red, swollen, dry, or cracked, and scratching may make the area more sore.

Contact dermatitis is an inflammation triggered by contact with a substance. Fresh blisters may feel tight or warm; as they leak or dry, the skin can sting and form crusts. The pattern may follow an exposure area, such as the hands, wrists, face, or a place covered by a product or material. Blisters can have several causes, so their sensation alone cannot identify the trigger.

Stop using a suspected new product and gently rinse exposed skin with lukewarm water. Keep blisters intact, use a cool damp compress, and apply a bland fragrance-free moisturiser around irritated areas. Avoid picking, rubbing, fragranced products, and further contact with the suspected substance. A clinician can recommend treatment after examining the rash.
