What does runny nose feel like with a common cold?

Runny Nose is a very common presentation of Common Cold, often feeling like thin fluid draining from the nose. You may notice repeated dripping, a need to sniff or blow your nose, and irritation around the nostrils.

A cold can make the inside of the nose swollen and more active, producing clear or watery mucus. The flow may be mild at first and become more noticeable as the cold develops. Congestion can alternate with dripping, so one nostril or both may feel blocked while fluid still escapes. Later, mucus may become thicker; this change alone does not show that a bacterial infection is present. Sore throat, sneezing, cough, tiredness, or a mild temperature can occur alongside the nasal symptoms.

Drink fluids according to your usual needs and rest when you can. Saline nasal drops or spray may loosen mucus and soothe dryness. Blow your nose gently, one side at a time, and use soft tissues to reduce skin soreness. A warm shower or humidified room may make breathing feel easier. Wash your hands after blowing your nose and avoid sharing towels or close face-to-face contact while you feel unwell.
