What does reduced baby movements feel like with oligohydramnios?

Oligohydramnios means there is less amniotic fluid than expected for the stage of pregnancy. It can be associated with fluid leaking, placental problems, some maternal conditions, or concerns about the baby's kidneys or growth. Reduced movement has several possible causes, so the feeling cannot confirm low fluid. Assessment may include a heartbeat check and ultrasound measurement of fluid and growth.

Call your maternity unit or obstetric team immediately if your baby's movements are reduced, absent, or different. Explain your usual pattern and when the change began. Do not use a home Doppler or wait for a drink, meal, or rest period to provide reassurance. Attend the advised assessment and follow instructions about monitoring, fluid leakage, and follow-up.

Seek urgent maternity care for no movement or a marked reduction that persists. Also seek urgent assessment for a gush or steady trickle of fluid, vaginal bleeding, painful contractions, severe abdominal pain, fever, or feeling very unwell. Reduced movement needs attention on its own; you do not have to wait for another warning sign.
