What does persistent itching feel like with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma?

Itching may affect patches or larger areas of skin and can become more noticeable at night, with warmth, or after bathing. Scratching may leave redness, thickening, scaling, broken skin or crusts. It can occur with dry skin or visible rash, although the intensity of the itch does not always match what is visible. Eczema, allergy, infection and medication reactions can also cause persistent itching. A skin examination helps distinguish these possibilities and may lead to other tests when needed.

Book a clinical review when itching continues, spreads, disturbs sleep, or causes skin damage. Note where it occurs, what the skin looks like, new products or medicines, and whether heat or bathing changes it. Use gentle, fragrance-free products, keep nails short and pat rather than scratch. A clinician may recommend moisturising care or prescription treatment after examining the skin; avoid applying steroid or numbing products to large areas without advice.

Seek urgent help if widespread skin peeling, blistering, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, fever with rapidly spreading redness, or signs of infection develop. Contact your care team promptly for open or oozing areas, severe sleep disruption, or itching that becomes suddenly much worse.

Ask whether the skin pattern needs a biopsy, which products are suitable, how to protect scratched areas, and which changes should trigger urgent contact. Ask whether current medicines or other conditions could be contributing.
