Pain may be centred high in the abdomen, below the breastbone, or more to one side. Some people describe a deep ache, pressure, or discomfort that travels through to the back. It may be worse after eating or when lying flat and may ease when leaning forward, although patterns differ. Nausea, appetite loss, indigestion, pale stools, or yellowing of the skin can occur with other pancreatic problems.

Pancreatic cancer is not diagnosed from pain alone. Persistent abdominal or back discomfort has many possible explanations. A clinician will combine the symptom history with an examination and tests selected for the situation.

Write down the pain's location, depth, triggers, relation to food or posture, and effect on sleep. Arrange a medical review when discomfort persists, returns, or is accompanied by appetite or digestive changes. Mention new jaundice, dark urine, pale stools, itching, or unexplained weight change, and take your current medicine list to the appointment.

Seek urgent help for severe worsening pain, repeated vomiting, fainting, confusion, fever with marked illness, vomiting blood, black stools, or yellow skin with severe abdominal pain or fever. These symptoms can signal a complication needing prompt care.
