What does pelvic pain feel like with uterine fibroids?

A fibroid can press on nearby pelvic structures or make the uterus feel enlarged. You might notice a dull ache, a dragging sensation, fullness, or intermittent cramps. Pain may be more noticeable during a period, during sex, after standing for a long time, or when the bladder or bowel is full. Some people have back or upper-leg discomfort alongside pelvic symptoms. Pain intensity does not show how large or numerous the fibroids are, and pelvic pain has other possible causes.

Record where the pain is, whether it is constant or comes in waves, and how it relates to bleeding, sex, urination, or bowel movements. A clinician may ask about heavy periods and examine your abdomen; an ultrasound can help assess the uterus and fibroids. Treatment choices depend on symptoms, fibroid position, pregnancy plans, and other health factors. Do not start or change pain medicine without checking that it is suitable for you.

Arrange medical assessment for new, persistent, or worsening pelvic pain, especially with heavy bleeding, pressure on the bladder, constipation, or difficulty becoming pregnant. Seek urgent help for sudden severe pain, fainting, heavy bleeding, fever, repeated vomiting, or pain during a possible pregnancy.
