What does nausea feel like with motion sickness?

The sensation often builds while travelling by car, boat, aircraft, or on a moving ride, especially when your eyes and inner ear receive different movement signals. You may feel warm, pale, dizzy, unusually tired, or produce extra saliva. A headache or stomach discomfort can accompany the nausea. Symptoms commonly ease after the movement stops, although the unsettled feeling can linger for a while.

Look at a stable point in the distance, keep your head still, and choose a seat with less movement when possible. Fresh air and slow breathing may help. Avoid reading or using a screen while moving, and choose light food rather than a large or greasy meal before travel. Ask a pharmacist about travel-sickness medicine before a journey, because some options cause drowsiness.

Get medical advice if vomiting continues after travel, you cannot keep fluids down, you have severe dizziness, fainting, chest pain, confusion, or a new severe headache. Recurrent symptoms with little or no motion, or symptoms that do not settle after movement stops, also deserve assessment.

Ask which prevention option suits your journey, when to take it, and whether it may affect alertness. Mention whether symptoms occur on roads, boats, flights, or rides, how quickly they start, and whether you have hearing changes or spinning dizziness.
