What does nausea feel like with gallstones?

Gallstone-related nausea may come with steady or gripping pain in the upper-right abdomen or the area beneath the breastbone. Pain can spread toward the right shoulder or back and may follow a heavy meal. Some people vomit, while others mainly feel sick and lose interest in food. Indigestion-like discomfort has many possible causes, so nausea by itself does not confirm a gallbladder problem.

Rest, take small sips of fluid, and choose lighter meals while symptoms settle. Keep a record of pain location, duration, meal timing, vomiting, urine colour, and stool changes. Arrange a clinical review for repeated episodes or ongoing discomfort; an examination and imaging may be needed. Do not take leftover antibiotics or someone else’s medicine.

Seek urgent medical help for severe or persistent abdominal pain, fever or chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, repeated vomiting, fainting, or confusion. These symptoms can indicate inflammation or blockage and need timely assessment. Sudden chest pain or breathing difficulty also requires emergency care rather than being attributed to gallstones.
