What Does Narrowband UVB Phototherapy Treat?

The treatment delivers a carefully measured band of ultraviolet B light to affected skin under medical supervision. It can calm inflammation, reduce itch, soften scaling, and help restore colour in some areas of vitiligo. It may be used for widespread disease or for areas that have not responded adequately to creams. The treatment plan is individual: the dose, exposed areas, eye protection, and session schedule depend on skin type, diagnosis, medicines, and prior light exposure.

Tell the clinic about medicines, light sensitivity, previous skin cancers, and any new rash before treatment begins. Follow instructions about moisturiser, washing, and covering unaffected areas. Attend sessions consistently and report redness that lasts, blistering, marked burning, or a new persistent change in the skin. Do not add tanning or other ultraviolet exposure without the treating team’s advice.
