A gout flare can make the knee feel hot, tight, and extremely sensitive to touch. Pain may be throbbing or sharp and can become noticeable over a short time, sometimes making bending or bearing weight difficult. The joint may look red or swollen. These features describe a pattern, but they do not confirm the cause; infection, injury, and other joint problems can feel similar.
