The discomfort may be felt in several joints and may overlap with muscle aches, headache, or pain behind the eyes. Movement can feel unpleasant, while fever may leave you weak and sensitive to exertion. A rash, nausea, or reduced appetite can also occur. Symptoms may change as the fever changes, so feeling briefly better does not always mean the illness has fully passed. Joint pain is not specific to dengue and needs to be considered alongside your examination and exposure history.

Rest, drink fluids regularly if you can, and keep a record of fever, pain, urine output, vomiting, rash, and any bleeding. Ask a healthcare professional which medicine is safe for pain or fever. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen unless a clinician specifically advises them, because dengue can involve bleeding risk. Arrange medical advice promptly if dengue is possible, especially after travel or mosquito exposure.

Seek emergency care for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, blood in vomit or stool, fainting, confusion, breathing difficulty, extreme weakness, or inability to drink. Urgent review is also needed if urine becomes very limited or you worsen as the fever begins to settle.
