What does hand numbness feel like with cubital tunnel syndrome?

The ulnar nerve passes behind the inner side of the elbow and continues into the hand. When it is irritated, numbness or pins and needles may involve the little finger and part of the ring finger. Symptoms can flare when the elbow stays bent, such as during sleep, phone use, or reading. Leaning on the elbow may also aggravate them. Some people notice aching around the inner elbow, hand clumsiness, or weaker grip. The sensation may come and go at first, then become more persistent if the nerve remains irritated.

Keep track of the affected fingers, activities that trigger symptoms, and any grip changes. Avoid resting your weight on the inner elbow and try not to keep it tightly bent for long periods. Gentle movement is reasonable if it does not increase tingling. Book an assessment when symptoms continue, disturb sleep, or make daily tasks less secure; a clinician can examine the neck, elbow, wrist, and hand to identify the source.

Arrange prompt care if numbness is steadily worsening, the hand is becoming weak, fingers are losing coordination, or the muscles at the base of the little finger appear smaller.
