What does endometrial biopsy treat?

A clinician passes a narrow instrument through the cervix to collect a small piece of endometrium. A laboratory examines the cells for changes that may explain bleeding between periods, bleeding after menopause, or a lining that appears thicker than expected. The result may show normal tissue, hormonal changes, Endometrial Hyperplasia, or Womb Cancer. A biopsy result guides the next decision; it does not by itself remove the underlying problem.

Follow the preparation instructions, including telling the clinic about pregnancy possibility, medicines, allergies, or an infection. Mild cramping and light bleeding can occur after sampling. Treatment depends on the result and the person’s symptoms, age, fertility wishes, and overall health. Options may include hormone treatment, further imaging, another sample, or surgery such as Hysterectomy when a specialist considers it appropriate.

Contact the clinic promptly for heavy bleeding, severe or worsening pain, fever, chills, dizziness, or unusual-smelling discharge after the procedure. These symptoms can indicate infection or another complication requiring examination. If abnormal bleeding continues, keep the follow-up appointment even when the first sample is reassuring.
