What does dupilumab treatment treat?

Dupilumab is a biologic medicine that blocks signalling involved in type two inflammation. In dermatology, it may reduce the inflammatory activity that drives itch, redness, dryness, and skin lesions in atopic dermatitis. It is also used for selected people with prurigo nodularis, a condition marked by intensely itchy nodules that can develop after repeated scratching.

It does not treat every rash or every cause of itching. The diagnosis, severity, previous treatments, other health conditions, and prescribing guidance all affect whether it is suitable. It is given on a schedule selected by the prescriber rather than as a one-time skin procedure.

Ask your dermatologist what improvement to expect, how to continue moisturising and other prescribed skin care, and how injections will be administered. Tell them about eye symptoms, asthma or nasal disease, medicines, allergies, and any planned vaccines. Do not change or stop treatment without discussing it with the prescribing team. A JAK inhibitor treatment may be considered in some situations, but the choice depends on your individual risks and treatment history.

Contact your clinician about new or worsening eye irritation, persistent redness or swelling around the eyes, or a suspected infection. Seek urgent help for facial swelling, trouble breathing, faintness, or other signs of a severe allergic reaction after an injection. Report a flare that is not responding as expected so the diagnosis and plan can be reviewed.
